Photography of sound

“Photography of Sound” – How did it started?
One beautiful day some young photographers were sitting around in a local city park searching ideas for some photography project they could establish.
Someone came up with “Photography of sound”. It sounded strange because it denied the essence of traditional photography itself, the observation and capture of what the eye can see.
However it is just a first impression, after all you can see in various ways, using your senses, audition, smell, touch and especially your heart. So why not inviting blind and partially blind to participate in this project with us? How do they see the environment around them trough sound?
Although it sounded tempting we had a lot of doubts:Will there be someone willing to participate in this project with us? Isn’t it to controversial, will they understand our intention? So we kept the idea on the closet for some time.
Fortunately we never forgot or put this idea totally on a side and we kept always in mind we wanted it to see a daylight. We talked about it among ourselves and with blind or partially blind people, which gave us a great support and feedback on it and we decided to make this idea come true.
We chose lomography to capture the sounds of an ambient, because it is a very simple and appropriate technique for beginners or people with special needs as you can make a shot without looking or adjusting technical measurements.
We are totally happy we were able to find people who were not afraid of challenging their disability and together with us participated in workshops, shared impressions and observations, and most important their overwhelming optimism.
We also hope that you will be able to feel this warmth and never ending curiosity that comes from all the project participants by taking a look at these beautiful pictures they took or watching the documentary film about the project.
